The 3Bs Skate Park was designed to provide a place for skateboards, BMXs and roller blades in Falkirk, following consultation with many groups and organisations, including young people, Falkirk Council and Central Scotland Police. The 3Bs Association was formed by local young people and volunteers in order to provide facilities for skating, particularly for young people in the Falkirk Area. Providing a designated skate park also helps reduce tensions between local residents, skaters and the police. The project also encourages young people to take part in sports, providing health benefits.
As part of the project, the area surrounding the skate park was landscaped, with the help of young people from the group. Scaffolding poles, box sections and other materials were reused in the construction of the park.
The project was also supported by Falkirk Council and Sports Scotland.
The grant awarded to the 3Bs Skate Park was used in the construction and landscaping of the park. It should be noted that FET was the first funder to award money to the project, which helped attract other awards.
The Skate Park is very close to Falkirk Bus Station, enabling users to travel by public transport, which is more sustainable than by private car. By reusing materials in the construction of the project, waste will be diverted from landfill. The landscaping of the area will help to enhance biodiversity in an urban area. By involving young people in the landscaping work, interest and respect for the environment may be encouraged, benefiting the environment in the long term.
