Jupiter Wildlife Gardens have been a oasis of green space in Urban Grangemouth for many years. The venue of several green events, a place for conservation volunteers to train, and a great educational resource for the whole area. Due to the degradation of the original buildings, it was decided to be unsafe for the public and closed.
Following the closure to the public, a partnership was struck between BTCV Scotland and Scottish Wildlife Trust. The centre was re-opened using a BTCV “Green Gym” as the primary regeneration force, whilst an enhanced wildflower nursery will become a sustainable funding source. This combination of social enterprise and volunteering will assure the continued and sustainable operation of the centre.
To facilitate these changes, the FET Grant was used to renew and re-equip the nursery area. New poly-tunnels and watering systems were supplied, forming a wildflower production area and visitor attraction. To facilitate the regeneration of the rest of the reserve, a new portacabin was brought in and equipped to allow Public and school use, as well as admin functions to be conducted
The public can now enjoy access during weekdays. Schools make use of the site constantly, and the Green Gym and other volunteer groups are assisting in the Conservation of the site. As always, the site thrives with wildlife.
