Information and Advice

F.E.T. can give advice and guidance to help you with your project. You may also need to explore the resources offered by other bodies. We have provided a list here of some of the sites available to assist you.

Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO)

SCVO represents and provides support, advice and information for voluntary organisations in Scotland.


Volunteer Development Scotland (VDS)

Support, advice, guidance and training on developing and managing volunteer groups and work groups.


Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG)

Practical advice for farmers and landowners on making adjustments to farming practices and operations for the benefit of wildlife, archaeology, landscape, access and conservation.

Community Webnet is a one-stop shop for Scottish community groups carrying out projects which improve the quality of life for local communities.

Falkirk Online - a one stop shop for information and services throughout the Falkirk area.

Land management College based in the Broxburn area of Central Scotland, Providing a number of courses in conservation and project skills

Environmental Organisations

There are many environmental organisations operating in the Falkirk area, with either active volunteers, local offices or active projects. Here are some of the major players ( please note some of these links have been repeated)

John Muir Trust (JMT)

Protecting and conserving wild land. Encourages community ownership and management of land and offers John Muir Award, as well as a programme of volunteer work days, training and activities throughout the year.


WWF - UK

Campaigning for protection of wildlife and sustainable development, with projects at a global, national and local level.

WWF – Local matters site


Green Space Scotland

Premier Scottish site for urban regeneration through environmental improvement. This organisation is operational throughout Scotland.


BTCV Scotland

Scottish division of the UK's Premier conservation volunteering charity


Central Scotland Forest Trust

C.S.F.T. are dedicated to the creation of the Central Scotland Forest - a mosaic of 620 separate forest sites, which by 2015 will cover 34,000 hectares


Scottish Wildlife Trust

Scottish Wildlife Trust's (SWT) interests are spread across Scotland with headquarters are in Edinburgh. With conservation at the heart of the organisation, SWT are committed to giving homes, a voice and access to wildlife.


Scottish Natural Heritage

SNH's task is to secure the conservation and enhancement of Scotland's unique and precious natural heritage - the wildlife, the habitats and the landscapes which have evolved in Scotland through the long partnership between people and nature.


Scottish Environmental Protection Agency

SEPA's main aim is to provide an efficient and integrated environmental protection system for Scotland that will both improve the environment and contribute to the Scottish Ministers' goal of sustainable development."


Scottish Community Action Research

Aims To allow local groups to carry out their own research on community development, and develop knowledge and skills that help to improve their communities.

Your project will need funding at some point. FET has provided some links to the most frequently accessed grant awarding charities operational in the Area.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust

Offering a range of grants for the regeneration of coalfield communities.


Sportscotland

Funding for sports development in the community. Grants available through Sportsmatch and Awards for All.


TSB Foundation

Grants to charitable organisations for projects benefiting the local community, particularly those supporting disadvantaged groups of people.


Forestry Commission

Grants available for management and development of woodlands through

Woodlands In and Around Towns


Esmée Fairbairn Foundation

Provides grants for environment, arts & heritage, education, and social change projects.


Environmental Action Fund (EAF
)

Grants available for biodiversity and sustainability related projects.


Environment Justice Fund

Grants for projects encouraging biodiversity.

Community Environment Renewal Scheme
 - This Grant system has been initiated by the Scottish Executive, in response to dis-amenity caused by the open cast mining of aggregates such as sand, gravel and hard rock.

CERS is operated by Forward Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Executive. All necessary information can be attained from that website, including guidance and application forms.

Active Futures (Scotland) - The programme will provide grants for all sorts of physical activities - dance, keep fit, sports - at a stage in young peoples lives when they are less inclined to be active   

Voluntary Action Fund - Grants are made to enable voluntary organisations in Scotland to develop new, high quality, volunteering programmes

The Scottish Community Foundation
- The Scottish Community Foundation has an Environmental Grants programme, 'Your Community, Your Environment' which is aimed at helping community groups deliver sustainable environmental projects in their local area.

SNH Grant Schemes

Awards for all Scotland - Aims to fund projects that actively involve people in their local community, bringing them together to take part in heritage, charitable, health, educational, environmental and other community activities

Lloyds TSB Foundation - Aims To address poverty; reduce isolation; promote family welfare, citizenship, social responsibility and independence; increase life skills; empower under-represented groups; and challenge prejudice 

New Ideas Fund - Aims to  help groups in disadvantaged areas assess the feasibility of new ideas in regeneration, and develop and build support for new and innovative approaches to renewal.
